The Beechcraft Model 18 (C-45) design was begun in 1935 as a fast light traveling airplane. Dubbed
"The Immortal Twin Beech" many are still flying today. The Lockheed Electra, which is a very similar
looking airplane, was the type flown by Amelia Earhart in her failed attempt to fly around the world.
