Supermarine Spitfire

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat, short-range, high-performance (370 mph) interceptor fighter aircraft
used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Along with the Hawker Hurricane
it was the main stay in the Battle of Britain against the Luftwaffe. Loved by the pilots who flew it,
Spitfire units had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than those flying the Hurricanes.
With 20,351 having been built, approximately 55 Spitfires are still airworthy today,
with many more on display in museums around the world.
